20 East Preston Street

Baltimore, Maryland

Where a rowhouse once collapsed in the historic Mt. Vernon neighborhood of downtown Baltimore, Peter Fillat Architects is designing a contemporary duplex residence. Situated on the only vacant lot of a fully intact Victorian block, the design is meant to relate to its neighbors in size and scale, but without resorting to historic pastiche. By making a clear break from the historic construction techniques, the design is clearly of the modern era and endeavors to respect the staid quality of its neighbors. This elegant glass and steel-box frame fits into an extremely narrow but deep site that provides each unit with parking, a grand entertainment floor, a master suite, two additional bedrooms and bath, as well as a penthouse with rooftop terrace.
