Bear Creek Expansion
Macungie, Pennsylvania
Peter Fillat Architects has been commissioned to design an expansion for the Bear Creek Mountain Resort that would provide additional guestrooms, meeting facilities, outdoor pool, tennis and basketball courts, a warming hut adjacent to the tubing hill and potentially an outdoor ice skating rink. To enable the development and potential future development, a new road and more parking spaces will be introduced.
The proposed guestroom addition will accomodate 60 guestrooms in a facility similar to the existing hotel. The form of the addition "rolls" away from the existing hotel building. The two tall masses are linked by the outdoor pool, which is set on grade. Together, the form respects the strong building alignment but creates a gesture sensitive to the context. The intertwined walking trail connects the pool to other outdoor spaces at the end of the guestroom addition to further tie the new forms to the overall concept of the development.
