Great things are happening at FILLAT+ Architecture!
Just last Thursday, during a work session with Annapolis City Mayor and Council members, we presented our new vision and management plan for The Annapolis Market House at City Dock. We were among 3 teams proposing new concepts to re-purpose and re-energize this amazing 1778 historic gem in downtown Annapolis. Teamed with Annapolis Oyster Company, current tenants at the Market House, our main intent is to restore this unique treasure to it’s full glory of yesterday only with a contemporary twist. Inspired by its historical heritage, the local community and America’s evolving fascination with high-quality, farm-to-table, food and drink eateries, we envision creating a new”third place” type Food Hall and Farmer’s Market destination that celebrates community, great food and place. In addition to bringing in curated world-class food vendors and providing an open seating plan inside the Market House, we were the only team to propose re-purposing the adjoining Hopkins Plaza into a much-needed community event space. By adding a permanent Loggia and Trellis structure to the plaza that offers rain coverage and shade, programmable events like bi-weekly farmer’s markets, art shows, flower marts, community gatherings, holiday celebrations and outdoor dining events could stimulate activity year round for the Market House, not just during high tourist season.
All in all, our vision to create a new destination for City Dock will undoubtedly restore the Market House legacy to it’s original grandeur by becoming, once again, an amazing community hub that celebrates both the spirit and heart of downtown Annapolis.
