Ft. Baker Retreat & Conference Center
San Francisco, California
The proposed development of Ft. Baker at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge boasts 227 rooms (74 in historic buildings, 153 in new construction) and varying capacity conference rooms for a total of 33,400 square feet of meeting space. The conceptual design for the site places great emphasis on the principles of sustainability, accessibility, historic preservation, and forward-thinking land use and transportation planning. The plan will be faithful to the spirit of the National Park Service Organic Act of 1916 which established that:
"The fundamental purpose of all units of the National Park Service is to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wildlife therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations."
The proposed development will protect the heritage and unique blend of military attributes set against the backdrop of stunning natural beauty and profound tranquility.
