Furness House
Baltimore, Maryland
This rehabilitation of a 1917 architectural treasure in Baltimore's financial district earned an Urban Land Institute and a MIPIM award. Despite multiple challenges including being on the National Historic Register, the rehabilitation succeeded in restorating the building as well as maintaining the presence of an important city landmark.
The official statement of award was: "A 1917 architectural gem in Baltimore's historic financial district has been given new life after more than 75 years of wear and abysmal commercial retrofitting. Setting a high standard for historic redevelopment, Furness House has been cured of its functional obsolescence without compromising the building's original integrity and elegance."
