George Washington Hotel

Winchester, Virginia

Built in 1924, the George Washington Hotel has been through a number of disparate uses as well as a period of vacancy in recent years. The hotel is being restored to its original use and grandeur. The elegant public spaces of the main level are being painstakingly restored while new amenities are being provided in underutilized spaces of the hotel. This boutique hotel will be a major new feature on the landscape of downtown Winchester. Peter Fillat Architects analyzed the building in an effort to maximize the value of the existing historic spaces while converting non-contributing areas into such uses as a spa and pool, a new kitchen and restaurant, landscaped courtyard, and glass gallery to connect the two wings of the hotel which stand on different elevations.
