Formerly known as The Hotel Stratford in its heyday, this elegant building is located adjacent to Union Station near the U, S, Capitol building in Washington DC. It was converted to the headquarters of The Childrens Defense Fund before being planed as a Boutique Hotel conversion in 2018. In 2023 the project was reprogrammed as a homeless shelter for Washington DC’s Housing Authority. The historic lobby has been retained and the guest rooms have been replanned to maximize bed density while creating a safe and dignified environment. A local artist program enlivens the public spaces which include amenity spaces, dining facilities, service spaces, administrative offices and inclement weather housing for an additional 30 residents.
